The Castilleja grows in moist areas, dry areas, and sandy prairies. This flower displays various shades of orange, red and sometimes yellow. It was adopted as Wyoming's State Flower on January 31, 1917. The Indian paintbrush (Castilleja) is a native wildflower in the family Scrophulariaceae (Figwort Family). ![]() One thing I was happy to see is a PRINTED owners manual instead of a disk like the parent company GRE. Like a couple of other reviews have mentioned you don't get a power supply (wall wart) or programming cable & programming software but are costly options after paying the high price for this unit. I am happy to say yes to both of the questions. One of my questions was if my computer programming cable & software (Win500) for my Grecom PS600 would work on this unit. A few of the questions I ask the RS sales personal they couldn't answer. Who knows what the future will hold.Īfter owning a GRECOM PS600(see my review on Eham on that unit) desktop scanner for over a year now (Grecom makes this RS scanner) I bought one of these units for $299 on the black Friday Sale. Many Police departments have rejected encryption for now. There seems to be problems with digital radio that so far has been a real issue when encryption is used. I highly recommend the RadioShack Pro-106 until the police start to encrypt all communications, that is if they do. The rubber duck antenna supplied is just adequate. I have the Antennacraft ST-2 and it works great with the Pro 106. The Pro 106 seems to have far better audio than the Uniden units I have used including the newest versions.Ī good scanner antenna is also needed. So I recommend the Pro-106 for now as you will have to mess with the Uniden scanners anyways. But that type of programming is not complete. The Uniden units just need you to enter your zip code and then it is ready. Compared to the Uniden units with pre-programmed software, the RadioShack Pr0-106 is a lot harder to program. Software available makes programming fairly easy but does require some learning in order to make it happen. Programming will require learning about trunking, talkgroups, and objects. AP-25 II is slowly gaining ground and will be more predominant as cities and states upgrade their radios. Not sure if firmware updates in the future will allow for AP-25 II monitoring. Better audio than the Uniden scanners I have used including the newest Unidens.ĪP-25 is the first version only on this scanner. The scanner is fast with great audio quality. The most recent firmware update as of Augis the 2.1 which corrects scanner programming errors in the marine VHF and UHF frequencies. The RadioShack USB to scanner cable is about $40 and is a must have for computer monitoring and programming. The scanner is great but you do need to learn how to program it. ![]() All software and accessories will work with either scanner as they are the same. ![]() This model was originally made by GRE but the factory was shut down.so Whistler bought the rights and now manufacture the very same scanner and re-named it the Pro 651. Purchased this off of Fleabay and got a really good deal on it. Other popular brands are Doña Vega, Bozal, Neta, Dos Hombres, Mezcal Vago and Ilegal. Personally, my go-to brands are Del Maguey, Montelobos and Casamigos. We are lucky to have access to so many of the best mezcals, and it’s worth trying new ones here and there to see what you like. In the U.S., more than 120 brands of mezcal are sold, and there’s even more in Mexico. Here’s what to grab at the grocery store to make these mezcal margaritas. Tequila margaritas have a cleaner taste, but mezcal margaritas have layers of complexity that are worth exploring. It can be sipped on its own but it makes a mean addition to a cocktail. For example, mezcal is delicious in a mezcal mule, a smoky spin on the classic Moscow mule cocktail. That’s where mezcal gets its smoky flavor. Mezcal is produced in deep, stone fire pits that are underground and filled with wood and charcoal. For tequila, the agave hearts, called piña, are steamed in above-ground ovens. The production process for tequila is different than that of mezcal. But to be called tequila, it must be made from a specific variety of agave - the agave tequilana AKA the Blue Weber agave.īut that’s just one of the major differences between these two agave spirits. Mezcal can be made with more than 40 types of agave plants, even a combination of different varieties. It’s not the same as tequila however, tequila is a type of mezcal. Mezcal is a Mexican distilled spirit made from the agave plant. Trying mezcal in the traditional margarita recipe is a great way to get to know this complicated spirit.Mezcal adds a sophisticated, smoky flavor to a cocktail, but it can range in intensity. If you already know how to make a classic margarita, mezcal will be an easy addition.Mezcal, of which tequila is simply a type, makes for a smokier, more complex addition that’s worth a try. Tequila is often the only unchanging element, but its older sister shouldn’t go unlooked. There are so many ways to change up these popular cocktails, from adding more flavors (like the cranberry margarita) to switching up what goes on the rim to enjoying them as frozen margaritas rather than on the rocks. Tequila, lime juice and a little salt? Perfection in a glass. There’s not really a bad night for a good margarita. Margaritas are the stalwart behind taco night, Friday night, girls night. Garnish with a lime wheel or a bit more Tajín, and consume immediately.Mezcal Margaritas Mezcal Margarita recipe It should smell exactly like a bonfire on the beach. After that, pour your cocktail into your Tajín-rimmed rocks glass (filled with ice), and take a good long sniff. Next, add 5 or 6 ice cubes to your shaker, and shake hard for around 20 seconds. Whatever you choose, pour 2 ounces into your cocktail shaker. That said, you should still use a quality affordable mezcal (a $40 bottle, say), and the good news is, these are pretty easy to come across. The nuance will be at least slightly wasted on this drink. There’s a time and place for top-shelf mezcal - and this isn’t it. 75 ounce mango purée, and throw it in your cocktail shaker. Just carve up a mango, and throw it in your blender. If you’re wondering how mango purée comes into existence, it’s really not that complicated. 75 ounce lime juice to your cocktail shaker. Therefore, you’re going to need some fresh lime juice. ![]() 25 ounce agave to your cocktail shaker - and feel free to throw in a bit more if your drink is too tart. 75 ounce triple sec), but mango purée has a decent amount of sugar in it as well, so here we only need half that amount. So take a small saucer, pour a layer of Tajín, then wipe a lime wedge around half the rim of your glass, and dip the rim in your Tajín.Ī typical margarita calls for. But instead of putting Tajín in our drink, we’re going to rim half of our glass with it. Much like mango and mezcal, mango and Tajín (a Mexican seasoning made from sea salt, lime, and chile peppers) were made for one another. And yes, despite its name, this holiday is meant to be a happy one. MARTIN: She says hot drinks like atole, a sweet, corn-based beverage, are also a must for family members holding vigils and celebrating their ancestors through chilly fall evenings. So today, eating pan de muerto and placing it on the ofrenda and at the altar, it represents how we commune with our departed. And they found this bread to be the best substitution for the real skulls that were part of the native rituals in Mexico. NUNO-RUIZ MCENROE: This bread is thought to have been prepared to resemble a skull and bones soon after the Spanish friars came to Mexico. Tamales are always a big hit, but one offering is a must - pan de muertos, or bread of the dead. McEnroe says your altar can have whatever edible offerings you like. And, of course, the dishes can also be enjoyed by family members who gather to remember them. Ancestors' favorite foods are prepared and left on a family's altar as ofrendas, offerings meant to help entice the spirits of the deceased back for a visit on the first two days of November. MARTIN: That's also true for the Day of the Dead. NUNO-RUIZ MCENROE: Cooking for us is an act that shows appreciation for family and for our friends. Mariana and her husband, Ian McEnroe, co-authored a new cookbook called, "Dining With The Dead: A Feast For The Souls On Day Of The Dead." She says cooking and eating are always a big part of any traditional Mexican family celebration. She is originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, now living in Austin, Texas. MARTIN: That's Mariana Nuno-Ruiz McEnroe. We make the foods that they enjoy the most in life. MARIANA NUNO-RUIZ MCENROE: So Dia de Muertos is a way that we pamper and receive of our departed. And while traditions vary, food and drink are some of the most important Day of the Dead offerings. How do you honor the memory of your ancestors, elders or loved ones who've recently passed away? For those who celebrate Dia de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, it probably involves an altar with family pictures, flowers and a variety of offerings. ![]() Christian Rice earned his fourth win of the season in his game two start, and John Esposito took the loss in his final start as a Dolphin.
